THE TIKI BARN @THE NORTH FORTY
The Tiki Barn came about because of a need. I needed a place
where family and friends could kick back, share some
brewskies, munch on snacks, visit, dance and have a good time
without the hassle of an over-priced, under staffed, LOUD,
smoke filled restraint/bar. Heck we had the brew (a keg), and
snacks (popcorn, chips and dips) and we could cook serve  ….
“Here it is ya’ll come and git it”, but Tyler Texas did not offer
anything to offer so I had to go lookin’…
I found the perfect atmosphere; laid back, outside/inside
seating, no smoking, my kind of music, over the top food and
drinks. Problem with that? It was in Austin and it was a
restaurant/bar.  The Hula Hut is uniquely situated on the banks
of beautiful Lake Austin, this tropical Texas paradise is just
minutes from downtown and features a unique mix of Mexican
and Polynesian cuisine, otherwise known as "Mexonesianis; it is
my kind of place shorts, sandals, and tee shirts. I came back
from Austin and filled Luke’s head with eye popping and mind
boggling ideas. Visions of grandeur a thatch-covered roof for
the main bar area; photos of family, friends and events should
cover the walls and ceiling. A fully stocked bar, memorabilia of
childhood days hanging from the bar and ceiling. A penguin on
top to the roof, a surfboard stuck in the corner (or better still –
a surfboard table!) a Chinese umbrella hanging upside down, a
Cheerleader megaphone resting on the bar, football helmet
hung precariously on the front, bras hung over the pool table,
thongs draped from deer antlers, 12 foot Christmas tree
illuminated with hundreds of twinkle lights in the corner with
the DJ, chairs and tables strewn here and there, bar stools for
all the bar areas, ceiling dotted with twinkle lights, card and
board games for every age, a Craps and Blackjack table for
those feeling lucky. A grill – no two grills and two fridges for all
the brew. Elvis and Marilyn just hanging out on a wall. A huge
“HAPPY EVERYTHING” banner and last, but certainly not least
we had to have someone run the joint; hence Hazel the
manager and Maynard the bouncer. After countless hours of
hard labor from Luke moving pieces to and fro a zillion times,
putting up and taking down lights three zillion times and all
those trips to party stores, junk stores, dumpsters and online
shopping the Tiki Barn was a reality. The first event was a huge
success and the rest is history….with over 200 guests at last
year’s annual Costume Party-Dance The Tiki Barn has become
the place to be on a Saturday night in October.
Maynard is our bouncer
and Hazel is our general
manager join them for a
night of fun at the
Tiki Barn!
